I love my family. I love my friends. I love my community, my country…. So why does the media show you otherwise? Muslims are dying everywhere, yet we live our lives in the country peacefully. We don’t rebel, we have one the lowest crime rate stats, we go to school, we love to love, we have large gatherings that sometimes take up parking in side walks, yet my neighbors don’t mind because we don’t mind when it’s Christmas or Fourth of July.
All this, and Muslims are not allowed to feel, not allowed to feel safe for once. This is my home too. I will always love my Texas. I will always serve my community, love my students, share tea with my neighbor, allow them to park in front of my house for nights in a row….
I can’t stop thinking about Deah, Yusor and Razan. But they have etched this country and ways you can’t imagine. They were Muslims. They were Americans.
